Everyone has their own experiences and come from different upbringings, however, these things are what makes them the person they are today. If negative or positive, every step in life leads you to who you are. We go through things we cannot control, it’s how we deal with those things that shape us into who we are. It’s our reactions, our thoughts that go on in our mind that we can’t control, the things we wanted to say but never had the courage to, these are all themes I wish to explore further. I want to capture the process of change between our basic instinct and what you decide to act upon, whether that makes us happy or not and, whether we can control it or not.

A friend wrote the text straight onto my back. The texts where old extracts from notes I used to take on my phone throughout the years of 2014 to 2018. These are things I never said out. I never shared with anyone. It was a part of my self that I was afraid to show to people.

This piece represents the really bad things that happen to us, but instead of focusing on how much it hurt, it focuses on how it makes us grow as we overcome them and evolve from it.

I wanted to make this piece interactive and bring people into the liberty of acknowledging the past. By voicing those thoughts through a softer way, through text.

The red text are thoughts that where written on me by other people. It was a moment for silence and reflection, a moment of acknowledgment.
